Aviva Community Fund – Vote for WISE-UP+

After the success of our advocacy training WISE-UP+ events in 2014 and 2015, Sophia Forum are hoping to run two more WISE-UP+ events in 2018 with the help of our supporters. These events help us to train young women living with HIV so they can campaign for the rights, health, welfare and dignity of women living with HIV.

Run over three days, the WISE-UP+ events provide a life changing opportunity for women with HIV to meet other women with HIV and cover topics including human rights, gender-based violence, sexual and reproductive health, creativity and support for emotional and mental wellbeing.

Previous WISE-UP+ events have been well reviewed; 99% of participant ratings for all the sessions in 2015 were either good or excellent and most of the women said that they wanted to become activists and advocates in their communities. One WISE-UP+ graduate has joined our core team as our volunteer fundraiser. A book of powerful poetry written by WISE-UP+ graduates, ‘I was the one who walked myself home’, is also now on sale to help support our work (available from [email protected]).

In order to fund our 2018 WISE-UP+ events and to train more advocates, we have applied to the Aviva Community Fund. One of the great things about this fund is that the decision about who gets the money is determined by a public vote. That means that we need you!
